I don't know if someone way back in time made an intentional decision to be obtuse by using base-10 when they began developing the web, or they genuinely thought most people couldn't comprehend base-2 counting and that they had to make it base-10 for the web to be viable, but why do we still have to deal with this problem in the current year?

I think its because binary is naturally powers of 2, and how 2^10 is ≈ 10^3, correct to 2.4%, 1024 naturally became a "kilo" byte because it is roughly a thousand bytes
imo I'm more pissed at manufacturers using the dishonest practice of advertising 12TB drives and only delivering 8TiB, like come the fuck on you know what everyone thinks

tl;dr its a colloquial kilo and not a SI kilo mixed with it being advantageous to marketing
